I am so fascinated with watching literacy develop. Abigail will be 5 in less than two months, and I just love watching that "click" as new concepts start to make sense. I got a phonics workbook last weekend, and we just flipped through it a bit. She's gotten really good at starting sounds and surprised me by figuring out several ending sounds, too. Then today, she was playing Starfall, a great little phonics website, and was acing the games on there -- as well as actually listening to my suggestion and clicking on each word in order to hear it sounded out.
As a huge reader, this is so exciting. As soon as Abigail learned to crawl, her favorite thing to do was go to her bookshelf and pull each book off one by one, methodically flipping through each one. I just can't wait until she does the same with actually reading the words! I even promised her a book light when she learns to read so she can stay up after bedtime like Mommy used to :)
